HOUSTON (Mar 5, 2013) – Today Ames True Temper® announced a donation of True Temper® branded tools to The Houston Community ToolBank® worth approximately $45,000. With a projected opening date of spring 2014, the Houston ToolBank will loan these and other tools to charitable organizations, churches, and public schools for community service projects of all types and sizes. Typical projects will include playground builds, facility improvements, neighborhood block cleanup events, tree planting, and greenspace revitalization.
ToolBank tools encourage nonprofits to think big, perform larger and more ambitious projects, and fully engage volunteers. Available tool types include landscaping tools, power tools, ladders, safety equipment, and much more. The Houston ToolBank will also become a valuable disaster recovery resource to the area as well. The Houston ToolBank is the fifth affiliate of ToolBank USA, the national parent organization based in Atlanta, Ga. Four ToolBanks are now lending tools in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Cincinnati; they equipped more than 70,000 volunteers with over $1.4 million worth of tools in 2012.
“True Temper tools, known for power, strength, quality and durability, are the perfect fit to help provide charitable organizations with tools that will directly impact volunteer efforts,” said Mark Brodbeck, Chief Executive Officer of ToolBank USA. Brian Liczwek, District Manager for The Home Depot and Houston ToolBank Board President added, “True Temper’s generous donation of tools, combined with generous support from Starbucks, UPS and The Home Depot, puts the Houston ToolBank much closer to our Grand Opening. We can’t wait to share these tools with Houston’s charities.”
True Temper’s donation of branded tools includes long handled tools (shovels and spades), striking tools (axes and sledgehammers), wheelbarrows, hand tools, and many other tool types. "We are proud to support ToolBank USA’s affiliate in Houston, as they aim to ensure every charitable organization in the Houston area has reliable access to highly-quality tools," said Ames True Temper President, Les Ireland.
In the spirit of community collaboration, the donated tools are being stored temporarily by the Houston Food Bank while the Houston ToolBank’s board of directors raises necessary startup capital. Once secured, the Houston ToolBank will secure a facility and hire its first executive director.
